Boss fined over work accident
Personal Injury 25 Jan 2011

The boss of a construction company has been fined and an employee awarded
injury compensation after an accident in the workplace.
John Handley, (a partner in J&C Handley) of St Eia, Friday Lane, Gedling, Nottingham, was found to have breached Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. As a result, he was fined £5,000 and instructed to pay £4,000 in costs.
"Had Mr Handley taken the time to think through a safe system of work then a man may not have suffered such serious injuries," Health and Safety Executive inspector Lee Greatorex said.
During the
work accident on July 2nd 2009, sub-contractor David Cotterrill, 31, fell under the front wheel of a telehandler after slipping. Since the incident - in which he broke his ankle, leg and right foot – he has been unable to work in the construction industry.
Furthermore, in another incident Ian Stanley Bond, who owns Stanley's Quarry in Upton Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, was ordered to pay costs and fined £5,000 after an employee was crushed by block of stone.
