Boss in jail after accident at work compensation breach

Personal Injury 04 Jan 2011

Boss in jail after accident at work compensation breach Accident at work compensation worth £5,000 was awarded to a man hurt during his job handling fireworks, but failure to pay the sum has led to the employer responsible being put in prison.

Chris Hignell was granted the personal injury reparations after the incident in 2008, during which he suffered multiple injuries to the face and had to undergo a number of surgical procedures, the Bristol Evening Post reports.

The victim could yet receive more money in accident compensation, as he is taking the case to court in a bid to prove criminal responsibility.

Employer Jason Edgecombe was ordered to pay the personal injury claim, but has been jailed for 88 days following a failure to pay an instalment of the sum, triggering an obligation to settle the balance.

A warrant for his arrest was issued late last month after the guilty party breached the conditions of his suspended prison sentence.
