Car accident claims to rise as "prang and run" motorists cost £169m?

Car accident claims may be set to rise as it is revealed the cost of "prang and run" motorists - who hit stationary vehicles and depart without leaving their details - is £169 million a year.
The Daily Mail reports compensation for car accidents that happened while the owner was present can be expensive for the victim, who is forced to claim on their insurance because the culprit did not leave their own details.
Accounting for 700,000 of the 3.5 million road collisions that happen every year, upwards of 500,000 occur when one car is driver-less, meaning a note on the windshield can sometimes be the only way to exchange information.
And traffic accident claims may become more common, as the increasing number of vehicles on the road indicates parking is likely to become scarcer and routes more crowded.
With expenses potentially mounting, many insurers are charging to make minor changes to policies, with seven in ten car cover providers levying a fee to alter personal details, a survey by Which? reveals.
