Landmark group injury claim wins millions in compensation
Personal Injury 16 Dec 2010

An
injury claim brought by a group of hundreds of Land of Leather customers has won a landmark case that will see millions paid out in compensation.
Thought to be the largest of its kind in UK history,
injury lawyers have secured the 408 victims thousands of pounds each after they suffered burns from a sofa covered in cured animal skin.
A spokeswoman from Zurich UK commented: "We are pleased the court has approved this settlement and hope this
compromise agreement brings finality to this matter for those involved and these individuals can move on with their lives."
The injury claim is based around irritation and burning caused by a powder designed to ward off mould during transportation, which reacted when exposed to the warmth of a body, causing skin to strip off and leading to further damage from the toxic substance.
Medical negligence was recently successfully argued by a group of family members of patients who died at Stafford Hospital, after it was found the facility had a disproportionately high mortality rate over a period of ten years.
