Lord Young calls for personal injury claims 'revolution'
Personal Injury 15 Oct 2010
A
personal injury claims "revolution" is necessary in the UK, according to the report published today (October 15th) by Lord Young of Graffham.
Personal injury experts widely expected the study to be critical of the current system, where no-win-no-fee representation is available for those who cannot afford to seek justice after an accident that was not their fault.
The release confirms legal specialists' fears, with the previous measures described as leading to a "damaging compensation culture".
Earlier in the year, a report from the
Legal Services Consumer Panel concluded
no-win-no-fee opportunities enhance access to justice and improve public knowledge of rights when it comes to personal injury claims.
It found the approach is in the consumer interest, indicating Lord Young's report, entitled Common Sense, Common Safety, may not have taken into account all the relevant information in drawing its wide-sweeping conclusions.
Its recommendations cover consent for educational trips, as well as reforms to the way traffic accident claims are handled.
