Man wins accident at work claim

Personal Injury 17 Jan 2011

Man wins accident at work claim A worker who was employed by a Gloucestershire quarry has won an accident at work claim after he was crushed by blocks of stone.

Ian Stanley Bond, who owns Stanley's Quarry in Upton Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh was fined £5,000 and instructed to pay costs of £8,790 after admitting to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

This compensation came after an incident in July 2009 when Nicholas Enston, of Bidford on Avon, Warwickshire, was injured by pieces of stone.

Gloucester Magistrates Court was told that Mr Enston, 47, broke his left leg in two places after some stone fell onto him while he was working alone using a forklift truck to move the blocks.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive discovered that the stones were not adequately secured and that Mr Enston should not have been working without the help of others.

In addition, another injury at work claim last year saw Nestle pay a six-figure sum to Susan Ashe, an employee who had to have a section of her limb amputated after an accident at work.
