Personal injury body demands access to justice guarantee

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers has requested a government guarantee regarding the amount of time it takes for compensation claims to be heard in court.
President of the not-for-profit organisation, Muiris Lyons, commented: "We all know public finances are under severe pressure, but the government must ensure people living in Epsom continue to have proper access to justice," reports This Is Local London.
His call comes in response to government plans for the closure of legal services centres in the region, including 34 county courts and 100 magistrates' courts.
Those seeking personal injury compensation could feel 'assured' their accident claim is being appropriately dealt with if the government were able to guarantee a hearing would be held within 20 working days, the specialist argued.
Last month, the spending review revealed the Ministry of Justice's budget is to be cut by more than one-third, with savings coming from the reduction of legal aid and administrative staff, among other areas.
