Pool accident claim may lead to £6m payout

Personal Injury 02 Dec 2010

An accident claim could lead to a £6m compensation payout by the owner of a pool where a young woman broke her neck. An accident claim brought by a girl who was left paralysed after diving into her friend's pool may result in personal injury compensation worth £6 million.

Kylie Grimes, now aged 22, is tetraplegic and believes failure to post warning signs around the pool led to her catastrophic accident, which occurred at a friend's party four years ago.

David Hawkins, 54, is the father of the victim's former friend and may be liable for millions of pounds in accident compensation if the young woman wins her claim.

Ms Grimes is also arguing medical negligence exacerbated her condition and is suing the NHS trust where she was treated after the incident, in which she broke her spine.

The victim has set up the Kylie Grimes Trust, writing on her website: "As I grow stronger I want to become more involved with fund raising, so that I am able to help other people with spinal injuries."
