Work accident leads to £100,000 payout
Personal Injury 06 Dec 2010

A work accident has led to a nurse receiving a payout of more than £100,000 from a hospital after injuring her back while trying to lift the foot of a 20-stone patient.
Linda Andrew, 56, was attempting to apply dressings to an obese man's legs, each of which weighed three stone.
Mrs Andrew, who weighs eight stone, stated she had repeatedly complained to managers at Surrey Primary Care Trust.
On one of her visits in March 2005, Mrs Andrews was lifting the gentleman's leg when she felt a sharp pain low down on her back, this caused ongoing issues that forced her to quit her job two and a half years later.
Judge O'Brien QC, sitting at the High Court in London, said that despite her comments about the demands of treating the severely overweight patient, she had been ignored by the trust
He said: "Nursing had been her working life and she finds it hard to accept that she will no longer be able to work in that field."
It has recently been reported that personal injury compensation worth £250,000 was awarded to a man hit on the head with an iron bar while performing his duties as a reception assistant.
