Accident Injury incidents at work decrease
Personal Injury 02 Nov 2011

The number of people injured and made unwell at work has decreased.
Figures published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show 24,726 major injuries were sustained at work at a rate of 99 injuries per 100,000 workers between April 2010 and March 2011 in the UK, compared with 26, 268 injuries in 2009-10.
However, the number of workers fatally injured in the UK has increased to 171 from 147 in 2009-10.
Judith Hackitt, HSE chair, stated: “The fall in the number of people being injured at work is of course to be welcomed but we did also see an increase in the number of fatalities during the year.”
While England can be proud that is has one of the best health and safety records in Europe, Ms Hackitt continued, the number of fatalities should be a reminder that “we can never let up in our commitment to addressing the serious risks which continue to cause death and injury in the workplace”.
The UK’s exemplary health and safety performance has been illustrated in the construction project for the 2012 Olympics.
A no-nonsense attitude to managing contractors and the risks inherent to the profession has been adopted by the Olympics Delivery Authority (ODA).
