Company makes payout for personal injury

A
work accident has resulted in a Brighton firm being fined £5,000 by a court.
The company was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as it failed to adequately supervise a teenage employee who suffered a personal injury in the workplace.
Malpass Direct Ltd, of Brighton Meat Market, in the city's Hollingdean Road, admitted in Brighton Magistrates Court that it had breached Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc.Act 1974 and Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1988. As a result, it was fined and instructed to pay costs of £4,005.20.
The prosecution came about after an incident on August 12th 2009 when a trainee employee, who does not want to be named, suffered an
accident injury. The youth trapped his arm between the wall and feed paddles of a mincing machine when trying to unblock a jam.
In another incident last month, Howper 291 Ltd (formerly known as Urang Ltd), of Hammersmith, London as fined £10,000 after a worker was injured after falling while working on a South Kensington property.
