Fine given to timber firm after man has work accident
Personal Injury 18 Aug 2011

A timber firm from the East Midlands recently appeared before Spalding magistrates after a member of staff had a
work accident while operating a circular saw.
Kestrel Timber Frame Ltd, of Lincolnshire, admitted to breaching Section (2)1 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
It was instructed to pay full costs amounting to £4,117 and fined £6,700.
The work accident happened on May 11th last year when a production operative, who has not been named, was cutting foam insulation at the company's site on Northfield Road, Market Deeping.
Magistrates were told by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that the worker got his hand caught in the machine and spent seven weeks off work as a result.
HSE inspector Emma Madeley said: "The injured man’s employers failed to provide equipment which would allow the job to be done safely and, as a result, a young employee suffered serious injury in a completely preventable incident."
Last year, WCM Europe Limited of Basildon was also fined £6,000 after a worker injured himself while using a circular saw.
