Personal Injury 08 Mar 2011

A property maintenance firm has been fined £5,000 over an employee's
work injury.
The Health and Safety Executive prosecuted City Response Ltd after one of its workers, Neil Kelly, of Bury, was involved in an incident at a house in Heywood on December 18th 2009.
Trafford Magistrates' Court were told that the 52 year old, who was unblocking a sink, had not been given adequate training, clothing or supervision on how to do so safely. He suffered burns when the products he was using exploded. His work injuries meant that he had to remain away from his job for over two months.
The firm, of Oldham Broadway Business Park in Chadderton, confessed that it had breached Regulation 7(1) of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002. The company was fined and instructed to pay prosecution costs of £2,965.
As a result of another work injury incident another boss of a construction company was also fined £5,000. John Handley, a partner in J&C Handley, was also ordered to pay costs of £4,000 after David Cotterrill, a sub-contractor, was hurt by a telehandler.
