Firm prosecuted over work accident

Personal Injury 16 Feb 2011

Firm prosecuted over work accident The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has prosecuted a firm after an employee suffered a work injury.

O’Keefe Construction (Greenwich) Ltd, of St Andrews House, Dreadnought Street, Greenwich, London, admitted to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

Sevenoaks Magistrates Court fined the construction company £20,000 over the accident claim and instructed it to pay £6,329 of costs.

The charges related to an incident on October 26th 2009, when a teenage worker, who does not wish to be named, spilled thinner onto his clothing while spraypainting a lighting tower in a shed at the company's Sevenoaks depot in Kent.

During the incident, the 18-year-old came into contact with a gas burner and was left with burns which he had to be hospitalised for.

In another recent work accident case, B&B Group Ltd was fined £12,500 by a court after an employee damaged his hand in the workplace.
