Girl wins £750 in compensation after fairground injury

Personal Injury 15 Sep 2011

Girl wins £750 in compensation after fairground injury A girl has received compensation through an injury claim after falling from a fairground ride at a carnival in York.

The 13-year old girl has received £750 from Terry Reynolds, from Showman's Ground, after a restraint bar failed and she fell four metres.

The fairground attendant was prosecuted over the accident, as the restraint bar on the Cliffhanger Miami Trip had failed two rides earlier.

Julian Franklin, an inspector with the Health and Safety Executive, said that if Mr Reynolds had done his job properly this accident would not have taken place.

He added: "He failed in his prime responsibility of locking the restraint bars securely on every single seat and then checking, with a shake, to be 100 per cent certain. This young girl was immensely lucky not to have been seriously injured."

Earlier this month, an accident claim resulting from an accident in 2009 saw West Yorkshire company Shaw Pallet Ltd fined £7,500.
