Injury claim made after worker's arm is injured
Personal Injury 09 Sep 2011

An
accident claim has been made after a worker suffered severe injuries to his arm in an incident at a construction site in Huddersfield.
It occurred when site manager Matthew Saville asked a 32-year-old man to remove a 34 kg diamond core drill from a stand and hold it in his hands while carrying out a job, despite the instructions on the device specifically prohibiting handheld use.
While operating the machine, the worker was spun around so violently he suffered two compound fractures to his arm and injuries to his head, requiring 12 days in hospital
Mr Saville, of Bridgefield Crescent, Oldham, pleaded guilty to breaching the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 as a result of the accident and was ordered to pay a fine of £3,000, as well as £2,388 in costs.
It comes after two companies based in Sheffield were fined following an incident in which a worker fell over three metres and broke his arm, resulting in an
accident claim.
