Injury compensation given to 7-year-old
Personal Injury 09 Aug 2011

A seven-year-old boy has been awarded
injury compensation after he was hurt during his birth at a south London hospital.
Leo Whiten was awarded £6.6 million at the High Court after suffering brain damage during his delivery in 2004 due to negligence at Tooting's St George's.
A spokesman for St George's Health Care NHS Trust said: "The trust sincerely regrets that Leo suffered serious brain damage as a result of these failures and formally apologised to the family in 2005."
The damages related to financial losses and personal injury resulting from the birth of the child to his mother Samantha Nowell.
According to Mrs Justice Swift, who heard the case, Leo will be unable to live independently, will not be able to seek employment and will be unable to manage his own affairs as he does not have the mental capacity to do so.
In April this year, Nathan Humphries received injury compensation totalling £8 million after he was injured at birth, an incident which North Staffordshire NHS Trust admitted liability for.
