Man jailed for contempt of court over injury compensation claim

Personal Injury 14 Jul 2011

Man jailed for contempt of court over injury compensation claim A man who claimed injury compensation after a road accident has been jailed for contempt of court.

Graham Loveday, a former lorry driver, was handed the nine-month jail sentence after adding pictures to Facebook of himself and his wife on a driving holiday from Wales to Italy.

This was after 54-year-old Mr Loveday, of Port Talbot, Wales, said that the car accident he was involved in during 2006 had left him "seriously disabled".

Insurer Acromas, which was previously known as Saga, said that when he made the claim for injury compensation he made false statements.

In addition, his wife, Susan, was also handed a suspended six-month sentence, after she confessed to partial liability.

Appearing at London's High Court, Mr Loveday denied the charge.

Furthermore, recent research by Moneysupermarket.com showed that 1.3 million motorists have confessed that they would consider, or already had, deliberately invented or caused a car accident so that they could make an insurance claim.
