Man returns to employment after work injury

Personal Injury 12 Apr 2011

Man returns to employment after work injury A 64-year-old man was returned to employment after a work injury which could have left him paralysed or killed.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted Dowding and Mills UK, the occupiers of Rivington Court in Woolston, and the injured man's employer Mike Wilde following the work accident on August 6th 2008.

Runcorn Magistrates Court heard that the victim, who asked not to be named, fell three metres through a suspended ceiling at the workshop while he was installing a hot water heater.

An investigation by the HSE revealed that another plumber had a work accident at the premises two years previously, but survived any injury by clinging on to the ceiling boards.

"Falls from just a few metres above the ground are responsible for hundreds of workplace injuries every year. Those responsible for work activities taking place at height must make sure workers stay safe," said HSE inspector Martin Heywood.

The HSE advise that workers should be aware of all dangers at height, such as falling from ladders, open edges, through fragile roofs and from machinery.ADNFCR-3248-ID-800496962-ADNFCR
