Manufacturing team fined after work accident

Personal Injury 18 Oct 2011

Manufacturing team fined after work accident. A ventilation manufacturing firm has been fined after an employee was run over and injured by a fork lift truck.

Kevin Davey, 61, had both of his ankles and lower legs broken when the fork lift truck reversed into him at Verplas Ltd's site in Dorset.

It was ruled by Bournemouth Magistrate's Court that Verplas Ltd had not enough separation between the work area and fork lift truck area.

Health and safety inspector Ian Smart stated: "Even though Mr Davey was very experienced, this potentially career ending injury still happened.

"If firms have limited space they still have to organise their operation so that they don't have conflicting activities going on in the same place."

Mr Davey has since gone back to work for the manufacturing company, which produces ventilation accessories for the white goods industry, including fans, tumble dryer and cooker hood markets.

The company also supplies standard and bespoke extrusions from their own division.
