Nottinghamshire firm fined after worker suffers accident injury
Personal Injury 03 Aug 2011

A court has fined a mechanical engineering company after a subcontractor suffered an
accident injury.
Mechanical Solutions Ltd of Mansfield admitted to Derby magistrates that it had breached Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
It was fined £10,000 and told to pay full costs, which amounted to £5,366.
The prosecution came about after Michael Hawkins, a self-employed roofer, was subcontracted by the company to work on an industrial building in Somercoates, Derbyshire to help add steel cladding to a roof to cover asbestos cement.
On June 16th 2009, he fell about six metres through a fragile roof on the site, leaving him with an accident injury which he had to undergo six operations over as many months to correct.
The Health and Safety Executive said that the firm had not made sure that the work was planned correctly, carried out safely or properly supervised.
In July, Walker Group (Scotland) was fined after employee David Tourish suffered a fall in the workplace.
