Nuneaton company prosecuted over teenager's work accident
Personal Injury 22 Mar 2011

A company in Nuneaton has been fined £4,000 after a teenage employee suffered a
work accident.
Nuneaton Magistrates Court found that Intelligent Recycling was guilty of breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Regulation 22 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. The company was instructed to pay costs of £2,832.
The prosecution related to an incident on March 1st last year when an 18-year-old worker, who has not been named, suffered an
accident injury. He was hurt by a forklift truck while using it to unload a vehicle and was left with injuries that required him to be hospitalised for a month.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Michelle Morrison issued some
accident advice, saying that operators of forklift trucks must be trained by companies to use the machines to the minimum standard set by the HSE.
Last year, Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK Ltd was also prosecuted after a teenage employee suffered a
work injury at its Wolverhampton site
