Paper firm fined for employee's work injury
Personal Injury 24 May 2011

A paper firm in the East Midlands has appeared in court and been fined following an incident in which an employee received a
work injury.
Buxton magistrates heard The Crimped Paper Works Limited admit to breaching Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. The firm, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, was instructed to pay £3,956 in costs and fined £15,000 over the
work accident.
The incident happened on February 16th last year when David Millband, a maintenance worker, trapped his hand in a machine at the company's site on Bowden Lane.
Mr Millband, 46, had to undergo surgery twice and was later made redundant after the firm went into administration.
Fiona Coffey, a Health and Safety Executive inspector, said: "Mr Millband’s employers failed to ensure that measures were taken to prevent access to the dangerous parts of the machinery. As a result, a man has suffered a life-changing injury and has been unable to perform everyday tasks ever since."
In May, a granite business, M & R Granite & Marble Ltd, and its director were both prosecuted after an unnamed worker injured his arm and chest in Hillingdon.
