Partially paralysed teenager wins multimillion pound payout

Personal Injury 11 Oct 2011

Partially paralysed teenager wins multimillion pound payout A teenager has received a multimillion pound payout following an accident during an operation that left her paralysed from the chest down.

17-year-old Laura May received the payout, which the Lancashire Evening Post believes to be around £3 million, including both a lump sum and periodic payments.

The incident took place at the Royal Preston Hospital during an operation to correct the curvature of her spine and the damages will act as compensation for medical expenses and future loss of earnings.

Diana Rostron, the medical negligence specialist who worked on Ms May's case, said that the settlement marks the end of her client's long battle for justice.

She said: "The settlement will provide Laura with security for her future and give her family the support they need."

Earlier this week, the News and Star reported that 29-year-old Jakub Sekuski had been ordered to pay £1,500 after an accident caused by his dangerous driving.
