Proposed No Win No Fee compensation changes 'mean victims lose out'

Personal Injury 12 Sep 2011

Proposed No Win No Fee compensation changes 'mean victims lose out' The changes the government has proposed for No Win No Fee compensation claims risk leaving many victims without sufficient damages, a campaigner has warned.

Jonny Mulligan, writing on behalf of the Sound Off For Justice campaign, has told Left Foot Forward that those people who are victims of serious accidents may be unable to obtain vital funding for their rehabilitation and future care if these changes are brought in.

He highlighted the fact that many of Britain's Paralympics team have survived accidents and used their successful court cases to fund their rehabilitation.

Mr Mulligan said: "Many of them could not have achieved what they have in their lives without making a successful claim for compensation."

He warned that, if the government is successful, damages obtained through compensation claims could fall by up to 25 per cent.

Last month, John Cooper QC criticised proposed government cuts to free legal services, telling the Sound Off for Justice blog that legal aid is the NHS of the law.
