Roofer's work accident at school sees company fined

Personal Injury 25 Jul 2011

Roofer's work accident at school sees company fined A roofing firm has recently been fined after a roofer suffered a work accident at a Stockport school.

Ploughcroft Building Services admitted in Trafford Magistrates Court that it had breached Regulation 9 (2) (a) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 as a result of not preventing a member of staff from falling through a skylight.

The firm, of Brighouse, was instructed to pay prosecution costs of £10,937, as well as being fined £10,000.

Those at court heard how the incident occurred at Reddish Vale Technology College in June last year, when Chris Buck fell on some cables while working to make a roof waterproof and tumbled through a skylight.

He was left with accident injuries that included damage to his neck and back and has not returned to work since.

This month, Shenfield High School in Essex was also prosecuted after caretaker David Springett fell while recladding the outside of a kitchen.
