Soldier criticises accident compensation
Personal Injury 04 Apr 2011

A soldier who won an
accident claim has spoken out to say that that the amount he received does not cover the extent of his work injuries.
Sergeant Rick Clements received
injury compensation of £570,000 after he stepped on a bomb while serving in Afghanistan, as there is a cap on the payout that wounded soldiers can receive.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) told the soldier that he was owed compensation of £633,025 for injuries to his lower body and an arm that left him wheelchair bound, but would not receive this due to the cap.
"It is a disgrace. At the end of the day, he has fought and risked his life for his country," Basha Hammond, spokesman for the Royal British Legion, told the Daily Star.
If a civilian was involved in an incident and received the same injuries they would be due to receive £4 million in compensation.
In addition, Kerry Fletcher, a former Lance Bombardier, who received a £186,895.52 payout from the MoD for sexual harassment, told BBC Radio 5 live that those who feel they have not been paid enough compensation should push for more.
