Personal Injury 04 May 2011

A fire escape company and a building restoration firm have appeared in court and been fined after a man sustained a
work injury.
Both Fire Escape Ltd and Triton Building Restoration Ltd were found to have breached Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
Fire Escape Ltd, of Croydon, was instructed to pay costs of £11,300.55 and fined £5,000. Triton Building Restoration Ltd, of Merton, was also fined £5,000 and told to pay £11,339.55 costs.
The
work accident happened in Kensington, London on December 4th 2008. At the time of the incident on Allen Road, Triton Building Restoration Ltd was the principal contractor and had paid Fire Escape Ltd to work on Abingdon Villas, repairing the exterior and restoring the fire escape.
On this day, self-employed labourer James Richards fell several storeys down an unguarded light well in the building, leaving him with a punctured lung and broken bones.
A Nottinghamshire welding firm, IFT Services Ltd, was also fined last month after an unnamed worker fell from a height.
