Two firms fined over trainee's work injury
Personal Injury 14 Jun 2011

A
work accident has led to Plymouth Crown Court fining two companies.
HT Gardner Distribution Ltd admitted to a breach of Section 3 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
It was fined £20,000 and instructed to pay costs of £11,300.
CL Electrical Solutions Ltd admitted to a breach of Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The company was told to pay £5,000 in costs and fined £7,000.
This fine related to an incident during which trainee electrician Tom Davis suffered a
work injury, in the form of a fractured pelvis, while employed by CL Electrical solutions.
He was working at HT Gardner Distribution LTD's site in Plympton at the time, where he was tasked with accessing the warehouse ceiling to replace a number of lightbulbs.
Mr Davis was in a cage attached to a forklift truck driven by a co-worker, neither of whom had been trained how to use the equipment, when the machine fell.
Earlier, his month Pilkington United Kingdom Ltd was also prosecuted, this time by Bristol Magistrates Court, after two employees received a work injury when they were hit by panels of glass.
