Will Yorkshire and the Humber see an increase in compensation claims?
Personal Injury 04 Jan 2012

As the number of work accidents increase in the Yorkshire and Humber region, companies may see a rise in
compensation claims.
Figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have revealed that 24 people lost their lives while at work in Yorkshire and the Humber last year, and more than 2,600 suffered a major injury.
Worker accidents have also increased across the country, with a total of 171 worker fatalities in 2011, compared with 147 in 2009/2010.
More than 24,700 workers also suffered a major injury.
As the number of accidents increase, so too will
injury claims, it is expected, as workers seek compensation for their misfortune.
Following the release of the data, the HSE has issued a warning about workplace safety and is urging employers to make safety their top priority in 2012.
Paul Spurrier, head of operations for HSE in Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "These statistics highlight why we need good health and safety in British workplaces.
"Employers should spend their time tackling the real dangers that workers face rather than worrying about trivial risks or pointless paperwork."
