Importance of wills and probate highlighted

Probate & Estate Administration 31 Jan 2011

Importance of wills and probate highlighted A lawyer has spoken out about the importance of wills and probate.

Legal professional Mike Walters, who is based in the US, has offered free legal advice for those about to get married, saying that they should pay attention to wills and probate matters before doing so, San Diego Entertainer Magazine reported.

Mr Walters, an attorney in California, emphasises that it is crucial that those preparing to tie the knot protect their estate and future spouse before doing so.

This can be done by arranging a meeting with a solicitor before the big day, to make the probate process easier in the event of a person's untimely death.

"There are ways you can both protect your spouse and make sure at the end of the day your estate goes to the people you want to receive it … but you need to work this out before you get married," Mr Walters said.

In addition, the importance of making a will was shown by the recent dispute by members of Walt Disney's family who visited a probate court in Maricopa County in the US in a dispute over his inheritance.
