Probate records show lottery winner left £800,000 will

Probate & Estate Administration 29 Oct 2010

Probate records have shown a lottery winner had greater personal assets than previously thought. Probate records have revealed a lottery winner left £800,000 in his will, after claiming the £9 million prize in 2005.

Keith Gough was believed to be bankrupt upon his death from a heart problem earlier this year, but probate records showed despite spending a large proportion of his fortune, he nevertheless had a substantial amount to pass on in probate administration.

The former banker quit his job and took up pastimes such as buying race horses, gambling and a box at Aston Villa Football Club.

Having spent much of his wealth, Mr Gough's story is illustrative of the fact making a will can take account of changing personal circumstances and ensure friends and family benefit as you would wish from probate administration.

One of a limited number of people to win such a large amount on the lottery, the Shropshire-born 58 year old revealed in an interview last year "without routine in my life I started to spend, spend, spend. In the end I was just bored." ADNFCR-3248-ID-800202922-ADNFCR
