Warning over wills and probate scam
Probate & Estate Administration 04 Aug 2011

People in Elmbridge have been warned of a
wills and probate scam, which has so far involved residents in the area receiving a scam letter.
The Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership told those living in the locality that these letters were posted in London on July 14th and claim to be penned form an investment manager in China.
This individual writes that they have access to $21 million (£12.8 million) that is in the name of one of their investors who is recently deceased and has no known relatives.
Following this, the letter goes on to say that if they are made a beneficiary, a private investment manager in Hong Kong will be able to access the money, as the person in the Elmbridge household has the same family name.
The recipient of the letter is then asked by the sender to not inform anyone of the correspondence and says that if they assist them, they can split the money from the account.
In other wills and probate news, the Leicestershire Constabulary issued a warning last month, saying that residents in the area should remain alert after there were a number of cases of suspected advanced fee fraud scams in the locality.
