Executor of will "stunned" by housing benefit bill
Will writing 01 Dec 2010

A woman named executor of will for her father's estate has revealed her shock upon receiving a demand for council tax almost three years after his death.
The Sentinel reports Clare Cooney, 37, followed the proper probate process, informing claimants they had up to six months to request money that was owed to them in the wake of Tim Finney's death.
Executors of wills are responsible for estate administration and ensuring the wishes set out by loved ones when making a will are adhered to.
For this reason, professional probate lawyers may be a preferable choice, as they will benefit from a wealth of experience, as well as removing pressure from family members at a difficult time.
Councillor Kieran Clarke, cabinet member for finance, performance and governance, expressed sympathy, but noted: "We do send copies of outstanding accounts to executors of estates every time we review outstanding arrears."
Lovemoney.com recently reported making a will can reduce financial strain on families by making the probate process easier.
