Legal expert: A will is one of the most important documents you will ever draw up
Will writing 17 Aug 2010

A legal expert has observed will-writing provides individuals with one of the most important documents they will ever draw up.
Reporting in the Herald Scotland, Paul Hearn advises when considering will-writing, the use of a "recognised specialist" will ensure people get the best quality service and could avoid potential conflict further down the line.
He notes the executor of the will should be someone impartial, who is capable of resolving disputes should they arise.
Creating a good will could help minimise the risk of rifts when an individual dies, by reducing ambiguities and ensuring the wishes of the deceased are clearly set out for all to see.
The specialist notes a well-drafted document may also reduce the taxes levied on assets after someone dies, ensuring family members benefit as much as possible.
A consultation on inheritance tax recently announced by the government is calling on relevant experts to help identify loop-holes in the law.
