Making a will and estate planning "too complex for the DIYer"
Will writing 27 Oct 2010
Making a will and estate planning have been described as "too complex" for individuals without appropriate training, as one expert states: "I really wouldn't advise DIY wills."
Brian McMillan, director general of the Society of Will Writers, observes it is "imperative" individuals use a professional who can prove their credentials through membership to a body that guarantees high-quality work and insurance in the event of a problem.
Those considering
making a will using a DIY kit or a company without a strong track record of will-writing services may wish to seek out a more reputable firm, as testament and
probate laws can be challenging when individuals are not well versed in the process.
Free will-writing advice might help people get started, as Mr McMillan notes the costs "need not be prohibitive", with the long-term benefits in terms of peace of mind and estate administration making it a good investment.
This Monday (October 25th) was the start of Write a Will Week and thousands of individuals could be inspired to ensure friends and family are provided for after they are gone.
