Power of attorney woman in £30,000 theft
Will writing 14 Dec 2010

A woman granted power of attorney by her friend abused her position to steal £30,000 over the course of more than a year, it has emerged.
Diana Thomas, 63, was given the responsibility by Mair Harris after meeting her in a care home, but spent the money on servicing debts, paying for a university course and going on holiday to Canada, the BBC reports.
Power of attorney can be offered by someone unable to see to their own financial affairs and may go hand in hand with being made executor of will in the event of an individual's death.
The case, though unusual, illustrates the importance of using professional will writing services, as well as the benefits of informing relevant parties when they are named in the process of drawing up a testament, as reported in the Guardian.
Ms Thomas has been given a two-year prison sentence and her victim may now wish to seek free will writing advice in a bid to conserve her remaining assets and facilitate their division among friends and family.
