Society of Willwriters 'pressing for tighter regulation'
Will writing 19 Aug 2010

The society of willwriters is joining other industry members in calls for tighter regulation of the industry, following a Panorama programme that sparked debate on the problem of profiteering probate outfits.
Though the problem of will-writing offices taking advantage of clients is small, it should encourage individuals seeking to use this important legal service to find trustworthy companies.
A report in the Sheffield Telegraph reveals the industry body echoes other legal experts in describing a testament as a "vitally important document".
It adds will-writing should be carried out "only by qualified professionals", but suggests more should be done to help consumers choose "a reputable and competent will-writing specialist".
Another industry body promoting better guidance for customers is the Fellowship of Professional Willwriters and Probate Practitioners, which is bidding to become the official Scottish regulator in the sector, following a law passed to better protect individuals using such legal services.
