Will-writing regulations 'to ensure proper consumer protection'
Will writing 25 Aug 2010

New will-writing regulations coming into force next year have been designed to improve client access to quality, affordable legal experts.
And one observer says they will ensure proper client protection, as long as practitioners are upfront about the limitations of the service they provide.
Reporting in the ifaonline, legal expert Carla Brown comments: "The average consumer would rightly expect all will providers to offer highly-trained staff with a full understanding of the law and estate planning."
She also notes the insurance offered by solicitors if something were to go wrong should be relied upon by clients as full protection.
Her comments indicate the importance of choosing reputable will-writing providers when it comes to drawing up the important document, so individuals may wish to choose a company that is well recognised and comes with good recommendations.
The Fellowship of Professional Willwriters and Probate Practitioners is currently bidding to become the official Scottish regulator in the sector, following a law passed to better protect individuals using such legal services.
