Advice to follow when making a will
Will writing 20 Jun 2011

People who want to
make a will have been offered advice on factors to consider when drawing up the document.
Adam Draper, who works for a Will Trust and Estates Disputes Team at a law firm, told the Daily Telegraph that people who are
making a will must carefully consider which organisations and individuals they would like to gift assets to.
He said: "While there is no way for a person preparing a will to guarantee their estate does not become the subject of a dispute, they can still do everything possible to avoid such situations."
Mr Draper said that those working for will writing services and legal advisers can help people to draft this document and instruct them on what to do.
He also added that people should think about if their money will first go to dependents or a charity in their will.
Mr Draper made his comments in the wake of the Court of Appeal's decision that Heather Llott should receive a bigger portion of her mother Melita Jackson's estates, even though Ms Llott did not want to gift her daughter anything.
In the letter of wishes that Ms Jackson wrote to accompany her will, she said wanted her money to be given to animal welfare charities as she thought that her daughter was "deceitful" following her decision to elope aged 17 in 1978.
