Charity donations encouraged in single wills
Will writing 08 Nov 2011

A campaign has been launched to encourage people to leave donations to charity in their wills.
Legacy10 aims to encourage individuals to leave at least ten per cent of their wealth to charity in the event of their death.
Roland Rudd, chairman of RLM Finsbury, stated: "The goal of Legacy10 is to encourage a change in the way we in the UK regard legacy giving, and make it the norm for people to leave at least ten per cent of their wealth to good causes."
The scheme was launched by Mr Rudd and is supported by celebrities such as Richard Branson.
It is hoped that the introduction of the new inheritance tax measures in April 2012 will also encourage charitable donation provisions in UK wills.
Individuals who want to leave charitable donations in their wills are being advised by the Guardian to work out the value of assets, then think seriously about who to donate to and how this will be done.
