Create a lasting power of attorney
Will writing 12 Jul 2011

A solicitor has urged people who have the first stages of dementia to create a
lasting power of attorney so that families can avoid problems and disputes over the long term.
Chris Walton told the Daily Telegraph that those in this situation, or who have just been diagnosed with the illness, should
make a will outlining their wishes.
He said that a lasting power of attorney will mean that a person can choose someone to handle their affairs during their lifetime.
"...A clear and concise will, written with the help of a legal expert, will undoubtedly save loved ones much heartache in the future by minimising the need for them to pursue both costly and emotionally difficult claims," he added.
In addition, Rosie Murray-West, deputy personal finance editor at the Telegraph Media Group, wrote for the Daily Telegraph that people can only appoint lasting power of attorney while they are judged capable of making financial decisions on their own.
