Lasting power of attorney discussed by expert
Will writing 26 May 2011

The issue of
lasting power of attorney has been discussed by an expert from Saga.
Alex Edmans, product manager at the company, said that appointing multiple people with lasting power of attorney can sometimes by a good idea.
Ms Edmans revealed that this may work if people are not sure they can trust the person they have given lasting power of attorney to and suspect they may take advantage of them.
She said that people can either opt to appoint a
power of attorney separately or jointly.
Ms Edmans said that people with two offspring can give both of them lasting power of attorney and allow them to work in unison, or separately.
"...You can appoint a power of attorney jointly, which means if they [those with alsting pwoer of attorney] decide to use your money in anyway both of them have to agree to it and sign to it," she added.
Furthermore, Ms Edmans advised people who are unsure about setting this up themselves to seek the advice of a professional.
In addition, people who are thinking of
making a will would be wise to seek professional help to ensure that this document is legally binding.
