Make a will that helps charity
Will writing 17 Jun 2011

People have been urged to
make a will that benefits charity.
Ruth Wharram, press officer at the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), said: "Legacies play a really important role in providing funding for the charitable sector, with nearly £2 billion a year being left to charities."
However, she said that only seven per cent of those who decided to make a will granted some of their assets to charity.
She said that those who are
making a will and want to include a donation to charity within it should get proper advice from an expert about how to proceed.
Ms Wharram also said that problems could arise if the person writing a will does not inform their loved ones about what they are leaving to charity in the document.
One charity which could be in for a windfall as a result of a will is Oxfam.
William Hill said that the charity could be handed £101,840 if Roger Federer wins at Wimbledon, as a bet was left to them in a will.
