Making a will is 'kind to a family'
Will writing 26 Aug 2011

People have been advised that it is a kind step to their family to
make a will.
This is according to Toby Harris, from Toby Harris Tax Consultants and The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) tutor for the STEP Certificate in Will Preparation, who said that by doing this a person’s loved ones will know their wishes.
He said that they may not agree with this but
making a will outlining a person’s wishes still saves difficulty.
“If someone dies, the family, if they are a loving family, are sufficiently cut up without then finding there is uncertainty about who gets what, what they wanted and the rest of it,” he said.
Mr Harris, also pointed out an estate is more complex if someone works freelance as it will have to be determined if they have been paid for all work and the value of their business, matters which can be simplified with a will.
Those who decide to make a will may also wish to let loved ones know of its contents before their passing to avoid any potential surprises and disputes.
