Pair jailed after taking advantage of will beneficiary

Will writing 02 Mar 2011

Pair jailed after taking advantage of will beneficiary A mother and daughter who stole funds from an elderly will beneficiary have been jailed for their actions.

Bristol Crown Court prosecuted Sally Medway and Marlene Legg after Ms Legg's aunt Maureen Curry trusted her to look after some money, the Bristol Evening Post reported.

The pair have now been handed an eight-month jail sentence after taking the £60,000 inheritance from the 76-year-old, who was her brother's will beneficiary, which highlights the importance of using a good legal solicitor.

Both Ms Legg, of Novers Park Road, Knowle, and her daughter Ms Medway, who lives in Stourbridge, admitted that they were guilty of theft.

Ms Curry asked Ms Legg to look after her money for tax purposes but could not have the cash returned when she asked for it back from both her and her daughter.

Despite this case, making a will can still make sure that family members are protected, according to the Guardian.
