'Show caution' in wills and probate matters
Will writing 29 Jul 2011

A law firm in Hartlepool has given advice to those looking to
make a will, urging them to exercise caution in the process.
Carolyn Tilly, a partner at a law firm in the town and a specialist in
wills and probate matters, said that many people are attempting to compile this important document themselves, the Peterlee Mail reported.
She said that she has found that those who chose the DIY option later turn to solicitors for advice after mistakes have been made.
"Deciding who you leave your estate to after your death might appear straightforward. However, a mistake could mean that your wishes are superseded and that your estate does not benefit those you intended," she said.
In addition, Ms Tilly said that when it comes to matters of probate or wills, the most efficient and cost effective option is to seek help form legal professionals.
The risks of making a DIY will were also highlighted by Karen Barrett, of Unbiased.co.uk, who told the Independent that this option could be a false economy as it could leave those left behind with problems.
