Will beneficiary involved in dispute

Will writing 16 Feb 2011

Will beneficiary involved in dispute The importance of making a will and discussing the legal document with the beneficiaries has been highlighted by a dispute between a brother and sister.

Kentonline.co.uk reported that Philip Armstrong used his truck to run over his sister Janet Jones' foot after they argued about money.

Ms Jones, 62, was paid rent by her brother on a house in The Limes, Ashford, which she looked after as the executor of her mother's estate, Maidstone Crown Court heard.

When Mr Armstrong opted to move out of the property last year he asked for a £250 deposit back from his sibling, who in turn said that she was owed money, leading to a dispute. The argument culminated in Mr Armstrong running over his sister's foot with a van.

In addition, the importance of using a will writing service was highlighted by Lexology contributor Fay Copeland, who said that the high court dealt with a higher number of  inheritance disputes in the 12 months leading up to November 2010.
