Sharing the benefits
with our Community Fund

be inspired

Each November, our members receive a share of our profits. And because many choose to give some of their share back through our Community Fund, local projects across the UK enjoy the benefits too.

How the benefits are being shared across the UK

The generosity of our members is incredible – last year saw a record donation of £3.2 million to The Community Fund! But behind the headline figures are amazing stories about how that money goes towards helping community groups across the UK.

From keeping swimming clubs afloat in Eastbourne to providing care, shelter and new homes for abandoned or abused animals in Northern Ireland, find out how our Community Fund has helped a group in your local community.

Here are just a few examples of how the benefits are being shared…

Angus Riding for the Disabled

Angus Riding for the Disabled in Scotland works with all abilities and disabilities at their riding school. Their team of volunteers help a variety of people from ages 3 to 50 to ride horses and ponies which have been carefully chosen for their gentle temperaments. When the group applied for funding to buy a specialist saddle for riders with spinal problems, we were delighted to help.

Incredible Edible Rossendale

The idea of growing your own fruit and veg is becoming ever more popular these days. But in many communities, barriers like lack of space and materials means a lot of schemes never get off the ground.

In Rossendale, Lancashire, one local group decided to seek help from The Co-operative Community Fund to kick-start their project. With a grant funded by members of The Co-operative, they could afford to buy plants, seeds, tools and planting boxes plus materials to publicise the group and its need for urban land to cultivate. Incredible Edible Rossendale now have over 100 members ranging from young children to the elderly, and with three sites already established, they’re actively helping others to learn how to grow their own produce – and experience the benefits it brings.

The Training and Learning Company

The Training and Learning Company is a Bournemouth based charity that – thanks to a grant from The Co-operative Community Fund – is now helping to support local voluntary and community groups and to spread the word about healthy eating. The group trains ordinary people in cooking, catering and business, and have even branched out into outside catering at community events due to popular demand. It’s making a massive difference to the local community. And it’s another great example of how our members’ generosity is having a positive impact on real lives.
