Is your child greener
than you?

go green!

These days, most of us know what being ‘green’ means – even if it’s just recycling your bottles or packaging once a week.

But the fact is, the children of today are growing up in a fast-changing world where doing your bit for the planet is becoming ever more important. Which begs the question…

Who’s greener? You or your kids?

Here at The Co-operative we think it’s time to settle the argument - so do you think you or your kids know most about the following…

1. Where our food comes from?

Because when you think about it, most of us just take food for granted – and don’t really know much about how it’s produced. For example, could you and your kids trace the journey of a banana from the plantation to your fruit bowl?

2. Why the planet’s bees are vanishing?

Yes, our friend the honeybee is in trouble. Their numbers have been dwindling for many years now. That could have a major impact on our way of life - as pollinating insects they play a vital role in our eco-system. Our Plan Bee project has been raising awareness of the bees’ plight and ways to fight back..

3. How we can reduce water consumption?

OK. Here’s a tricky one. Next time you fill up the kettle for a cuppa, did you stop to consider just how many times you do it over a week – and how much water you use? Or what about when the kids are brushing their teeth? Do they leave the tap on or turn it off?

4. Ways to help fight climate change?

We all know about climate change – but do you think you or your child knows more about ways to fight it. For example, there’s more to it than turning down the thermostat or turning lights off. Take our walking buses for schools – a smart way to get kids healthy and reduce Co2 emissions from car use!

With our Green Schools Revolution taking place in primary and secondary schools across the country, we think the kids could be the winners here! The Green Schools Revolution is our way of helping teachers bring green issues to life for kids – and really get them excited about doing ‘their bit’ for the planet!

We’ve also launched a new Green Schools Revolution i-Phone App which you can download FREE from the apple app store. With its series of challenges – from saving water to reducing energy use - against the clock (and some rabbits!) it’s a great way for kids to become a true eco warrior!
